Five Wednesday evenings in May, road racing in Victoria Park not such a big deal really? Well in a word, yes. For us, the other clubs involved, British Cycling and everybody who rides locally closed circuit racing came to town in a unique way.
The action has been tough, frenetic at times but with an equal measure of tactics and the local teams working towards one main goal of becoming series winners. As is customary in cycling only one rider per category can take the spoils but there was no denying that everything was up for grabs on the final evening of racing.
With the series points so close in all categories it meant that the main riders kept a an eye on their rivals. This left opportunities for those out of the reckoning to slip off the front and try their luck. Despite a number of breaks in each race only Tavis Walker of Wilier/Live2Ride was able to make his effort stick and solo to victory in the E/1/2/3 race. Otherwise all the series leaders before going in to the final round managed to gain enough points to ensure they got their hands on the yellow ‘Bath Cycle Races’ winner’s jerseys. The provisional series winners as follows:
Youth: Adam Beddall (Gloucester City CC)
Women: Nicole Walters (Team Hope Factory Racing)
Men 3/4: Michael Ward (VC Montpellier)
Men E1/2/3: Colin Parry (Wilier/Live2Ride)
Thanks to everybody who helped with organising this year’s series and thanks to all of you who turned up and raced ensuring Bath Cycle Races was a huge success.
See you all next year in May!
