“Just another VC Walcot Sunday”
At least five different groups on Sunday but one thing in common; we nearly always head into the wind on the way out so we have a nice fast tailwind home.
Sunday 25th November 2018: every Sunday since September we’ve been saying how we should enjoy this because the winter weather will soon be here but this autumn just keeps on giving. Fair enough, although the sun – sort of – shone through, the North-East wind was chilly and like all the text books say, that’s the way you should head and sure enough our Clubriders 1 group with 12 riders shot for Castle Combe where at half way on our 40 miles we tucked into coffee and cake at one of our absolute favourite cafes The Old Stables Castle Combe. Kudos to the Swindon Road Club who’d had the same idea as us but they were in the middle of a 60-mile ride, with their dozen looking like the equivalent of our Clubriders 2 or 3, ie faster but with a headwind home.
Meanwhile our Clubriders 2 group had also headed North-East but to Malmsbury where another dozen stopped at popular way point The Summer Cafe half way on their 50-mile jaunt that was also a couple of mph speedier. They were joined by an even faster five who opted to put into practice some of the group riding skills we’ve been learning up at Odd Down Cycling Circuit over the last few Sundays. Also out and about today: the awesome Velo Club Walcot Raceriders rode 60 miles at ave 18mph via Tetbury, a further Clubriders 3 group of four also rode to Tetbury but by a slightly shorter route and we were also represented at today’s installment of the Western Cyclo-Cross League at Cheddar. Just another Sunday and more tired legs but sharper and smilier brains ready for the week ahead. Bring on the winter, we’re ready.
Why not come and join us? Our first Clubriders 1 group normally covers about 40 miles at an average of 12-14mph but don’t worry; nobody in this group gets left behind and pretty much everybody in our club started out here. More details of our Sunday groups here. You’ll be very welcome.
