Half-year membership runs from 1st October to 31st March – half-year memberships are charged at half price

Existing members’ renewal is due on 1st April.

To join you can download a membership form here and when that is completed and saved, email it through to

You only need to do this when you join initially. Thereafter, just pay your subs annually on 1st April via PayPal or the British Cycling website and the membership secretary will automatically receive a payment advice.

Membership payments can be made via this link:

Or, you can join via the British Cycling website here. You do not need to be a member of British Cycling to use this facility although there are useful benefits – such as insurance – and you’ll need to join BC and carry one of their licences if you plan to ride road or circuit races such as those held under BC rules at our local Odd Down Circuit.

If you do join British Cycling, please bear in mind that your BC membership and VC Walcot membership are two separate things and re-subscribing to one doesn’t cover the other, and vice versa. Two separate payments need to be made if you wish to continue with either, or both, with VC Walcot always being renewed on the 1st April and British Cycling on the anniversary of first joining.

Any questions, you can always seek clarification on the ‘membership’ or ‘hello’ email addresses.

Try before you buy

You are welcome to come along for a few rides before joining to see if it’s for you, although please read the Ride Etiquette post here before you do.

What to bring on a ride?

Obviously a bike but please make sure it is roadworthy with good tyres, properly inflated. We recommend you carry a minimum of a spare inner tube/puncture repair kit, tyre levers, pump, multitool, sufficient energy snacks, at least one water bottle, phone, money and something for keeping your phone and money dry.

Helmet or not?

All our ride leaders and the vast majority of members wear helmets and as a British Cycling-affiliated club we strongly recommend that you wear a helmet on our rides. But we’re all adults here and it’s very much a personal choice.

Youth and juvenile riders in any club-related activity and any age group racing in British Cycling sanctioned events absolutely need to use a helmet.

We are British Cycling and CTT affiliated, which covers liability when riding as part of Velo Club Walcot. For personal liability, we recommend the insurance provided by either Cycling UK or British Cycling. Traditionally club members have taken part in all competitive forms of cycling; road racing, cyclo-cross and time trials. We have a number of members taking part in each discipline so there’s plenty of knowledge and support.

All members should remember to carry their membership cards with health and next of kin details completed, when out with the club on a group ride
