Cycle Fest 2014 – Go-Ride Tour in the morning & competitive racing in the afternoon brings bike racing to Odd Down, Bath.
In celebration of the Tour de France visiting our shores in July, Sulis Scorpions Youth Cycling Alliance are hosting a Go-Ride Tour race event, to give young people the chance to get involved with cycle sport.
All youngsters between the ages of 7 and 16 years old (born from 1998 onwards) are welcome to join us on 12th July 2014 at Odd Down Cycle Circuit, Bath and take part.
The Go-Ride Tour has been co-ordinated by British Cycling, to give local children the opportunity to emulate their cycling heroes and have some fun racing their bike.
On the day, young riders will have the chance to take part in a number of racing sequences, with the best performances winning medals and t-shirts in the colours of the Tour de France jerseys – yellow, green, polka dot and white.
Jonathan Arnold, Chairman of Sulis Scorpions Youth Cycling Alliance is expecting a big turnout for the event. He said “It’s such an exciting summer for cycling with the greatest road race in history, the Tour de France, coming to the UK in July and the Tour of Britain visiting Bath in September. We saw from the Olympics that events like these inspire so many young people to get on their bikes and we want to provide an opportunity for them to experience the thrill of racing. We look forward to welcoming lots of new riders to our Go-Ride Tour race, which will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of the year for the club”.
To take part in the Go-Ride Tour all that’s needed is to come along with your bike (you don’t have to have a road racing bike, just make sure your bike is in full working order and has both a front & rear brake) and cycle helmet at 8:30am on the 12th July at Odd Down Cycle Circuit, in readiness for the racing to start at 9.00am.
And if that’s not enough, following Bath Cycling Club successfully hosting competitive racing as part of Cycle Fest 2013, this year it’s Velo Club Walcot hosting. A full closed circuit race programme so bring your road bike. Starting with youths at 3.00pm, with races for the ladies and gents following. Prize fund to the top 3 in all youth categories and top 5 in all the adult categories. All proceeds from the competitive racing is donated to the Sulis Scorpions YCA. Enter online here:
