Sunday 30th September 2018 is the next date for the annual and now legendary Velo Club Walcot Hill Climb on Claverton Hill at the Eastern edge of Bath.
‘Legendary’ because however awful the riders feel after riding for around two minutes up the sharp climb from the edge of the village of Claverton at River Avon level up to the gates of the American Museum on the outskirts of the University campus, they all say its the friendliest, best attended and noisiest of the traditional Hill Climb season.
For those who have made the questionable decision to pay £7 and actually race, entries can be reserved on the CTT site here. To encourage youngsters aged 12-15, the club is not charging apart from a small CTT service charge. Entries for all close at 23:59 on Tuesday 18th September 2018.
It’s very clear to the rest of us however that the racers are merely there for our entertainment and a healthy mob of spectators will be in place armed with cow bells and anything else that makes a din to encourage the gladiators over the timing line.
Signing on is from 1pm and the prize presentation afterwards will take place on the terrace of the University of Bath Sports Centre café. The first rider starts from Claverton at 2.20pm.
You’ll be very welcome, whether or riding or watching.
