VCW Omloop het Zuidwesten – Overzicht

Sunday was another fantastic edition of our annual Classics Ride. Every year the route changes but the enthusiasm shown by members to turn out in their droves (60+ on the day) meant 2014 will go down (everybody say ‘Aye’) as probably the best yet.

You have to track back to April 2007 for the first Classics Ride, it was sunny and warm then too funny how that always happens even in April. There were approx 15-20 riders at the meet point that day but all in one group. These days we’re rolling in four groups of 15 or more.

Barney Speller put together a testing loop covering just 35 miles with 4 major climbs (St Catherines, Saltbox, Dead Man Wood and Shaft Road) with a number of ‘stingers’ in between. Objective: steep climbs, rough roads, ride with a smile on your face in any kind of retro clobber you can get you hands on and forget that your legs hurt! Failing that just have fun on a bike!

Thanks to members old and new for turning out.

Happy days!
